The Papery finds itself comfortably at home at Third and Arch Streets, its newest location since October 2003. As Old City Philadelphia continues to accommodate the masses of trendsetters, diners, and business people, our uniquely upscale stationery and specialty gift boutique is certain to fit into the mix. This location of The Papery is the eleventh to open in our 6 year history.
In an age of computers and cell-phones, The Papery has thrived on the traditionalism of years passed. "People feel more of a pull to put things on paper. It is different from the fast-paced communication of their busy lives," say Michael and Louis Ferrarese, the founders of the first Papery store in Greenwich, Connecticut. The old-fashioned philosophy of The Papery doesn't end with the product. The extended Ferrarese family, with the help of close friends, now runs ten additional locations. Each shop is modeled after Greenwich, with variations on its French Country decor altered to fit the personality of the region and that region's clientele.
The Papery's newest location, in Old City, Philadelphia, is the brainchild of the Ferrarese's niece, Carolyn Brandhorst. The New Jersey native is a partner, along with her parents, in the Philadelphia location of The Papery.
With more than ten years of professional printing and design experience, Carolyn assists clients eager to find an unconventional but proper accompaniment to their special occasion. As a resident of Old City, Carolyn is eager to bring The Papery and its expert services to the city, and especially to the Old City neighborhood. "Old City is such a charming spot, and retail is really making a major impact on the area," she says.
Carolyn Brandhorst regularly travels to New York to hand-select merchandise for the store, whose inventory changes frequently. She makes certain to keep abreast of the trends, choosing merchandise that is sassy, trendy, cutting-edge, and found nowhere else in the city. The cleverly illustrated cards and invitations, available exclusively at The Papery, aid in evolving Old City's vibe of genuine Philadelphia style.
