Baby Block Baby Shower

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

We LOVE when our Brides come back to us for their Baby Showers, and Birth Announcements.  It is a relationship that can last almost a lifetime!

Caroline’s wedding invitations were beautiful and she loved the process of coming up with something in her head and seeing it come to life, we are ALL about that at The Papery, making someone’s thoughts come true on PAPER.

Caroline came to us for her Baby Shower invites and wanted to do something with BUILDING BLOCKS.  She knew she was having a boy and BLUE was the color.  We had the blocks silk screened with all the Baby Shower information printed directly on the block; we also created an insert with Registry information.  We made custom boxes to fit the block into and embellished it with a ribbon and a tag.  These were then packaged in a white mailing box with a cute label.

Needless to say her guests were WOWED, and I have to say, we were too!  Thanks Caroline for coming back to The Papery to make your PAPER DREAMS COME TRUE!!

PAPER ART!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

These pretty things hanging in The Papery’s window the past couple of months have garnered quite a bit of attention.  We like to call them… The Papery’s PAPER ART!

Since they have been in our window in different sizes and colors…we have made them for Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, Anniversary Parties. Etc.…I even made them for my Grandmothers backyard BBQ this past summer…we hung them in the trees to create a bit of whimsy!

Let us know if you want us to create some PAPER ART for your next soiree…or if you’re crafty, see below for How-To Instructions!

Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inch-wide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.

A Quote I Live By: “A Master in the Art of Living Draws No Sharp Distinction Between His Work and His Play”

Monday, January 30th, 2012
In my daily wanderings through Wikipedia I managed to stumble upon a quote that perfectly describes my joy for what I do and my never-ending “passion for paper”:
“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”
- Francois-Rene August, Vicomte de Chateaubriand
(4 September 1768 – 4 July 1848)
I am sure other entrepreneurs and creatives like myself stuggle with finding the balance between work and play.  But rather than struggle against what the world says we should be, why don’t we just call it like it is? Fabulous luck.  We’re lucky to love what we do as a profession and we should be grateful we still find the passion to create each and every day.  I, for one, find tremendous pleasure and personal reward in working constantly and at a frenetic pace!  Sure, I’m human and need a trip to the tropics every so often to recharge my batteries, but working with all-things paper, graphic design and stationery is a gift that keeps on giving.
Everyone should be so lucky.  With love, Carolyn Brandhorst (Owner & Creative Director of The Papery)

What’s the Difference between a Place card and an Escort Set?

Friday, May 27th, 2011

We often get asked “what’s the difference between a place card and an escort set?”

We think of the distinction as an escort set escorts guests to their table, while place cards seat guests to their place setting. Once a traditional and expected practice, providing escort sets AND place cards are a less popular practice in today’s weddings and events. It’s just too daunting and time-consuming to seat each and every guest to a specific chair.  Really, who has that kind of time? Certainly for petite events, 40 guests and smaller, it’s a personal and elegant touch that every super-entertainer can use to create interesting conversation and consistent energy at the table.  But while thoughtful, it’s still work figuring out who would enjoy sitting next to each other or who should be seated at opposite ends of the table.

But in all practicality, today’s savvy party hosts tend to keep things simple by choosing to escort their guests to a dinner table and skipping the rest.  We hear clients ask for place cards, seating cards, escort cards, escort sets and host cards.  Frankly, it doesn’t matter to us what they’re called as long as they serve the purpose at hand.  “What table am I seated at?”

DRUM ROLL, Please!!!

FINALLY! Welcome to Paper + Passion, our blog designed to share our obsessive love for social stationery, graphic design and clever products.  We’re inspired each and every day by life in general but we thrive on challenging, creative projects brought to us by our clients, vendors and friends.  In fact, we’re practically busting at the seams with stuff to share and it’s about time too!  So drop in and take a look at what we’re designing today.  Who knows what we’ll be working on?  We could be designing one of our bride’s custom wedding invitations, packaging some amazing party favors, giving advice on appropriate social etiquette, laughing at one of our hilarious greeting cards or finding inspiration from events that take place in our own neighborhood.  One never knows what’s happening in our studio but it’s a journey meant to be shared with other paper enthusiasts.  So let’s get started, DRUM  ROLL PLEASE…..Let’s get passionate about paper together.
